Mason Van Gieson is an actor, musician and educator based in New York City. She is a question-asker who prioritizes deep research, and who is dedicated to unearthing forgotten stories and uplifting marginalized voices, with a particular passion for stories highlighting the experiences of working class women. She has a penchant for new works, and has collaborated with so many wonderful writers in both New York and her beloved hometown of Detroit.
Recent highlights: MYSTERIES THEY SOLVED (Blackboard Plays/Arena Stage), PIGEONS MATE FOR LIFE (Theatre Now New York), SUMMONED (Dramatic Question Theatre @ The Flea) FREIDA, OR THE RED BLUE & BLACK (Obsidian Theatre Festival @ Detroit Opera House). Mason has also worked on the other side of the table in production (B'way: THE SOUND INSIDE).
She is also a professional a cappella vocalist, singing with BLACKOUT (@blackout_nyc) and quintet Chasing Saturn (@chasingsaturnofficial), and serving as Creative Director for all-woman vocal music collective VICE A Cappella (@viceacappella). With these ensembles she's had so many wild and varied opportunities to perform as a working musician around the nation.
She also serves as a teaching artist with a passion for guiding students toward the “why” behind their performance. In her life outside performance, she serves as Director of Recruitment for A Cappella Academy in Los Angeles. Proud Michigan native, UMich acting grad. Continued training with The Barrow Group.
