Born in Mumbai, India, Asha moved to England as a child. She studied communications at University College while pursuing her love of music, performing with several bands before eventually finding her way to the TruYouthers.
As one of the TruYouthers’ principal vocalists, Asha was known for her commanding stage presence and thoughtful approach to the group’s message. Behind the scenes, she was equally passionate about women’s empowerment and using her platform to advocate for change.
Asha became increasingly involved in women’s rights advocacy, speaking publicly about financial independence, access to education, and workplace equality. She was particularly passionate about expanding educational and economic opportunities for women in India, returning to Mumbai several times to work with Her Future India and the Nayi Disha Foundation in support of young women and girls.
Through her advocacy, Asha introduced countless women to TruYouth, mentoring new members as they built businesses of their own. To Asha, the opportunity represented something she had long championed: a chance for women to achieve financial independence on their own terms.
Following the deaths of her three bandmates from a devastating illness in 2016, Asha withdrew from public life. In the months that followed, she disappeared from view entirely. Her current whereabouts remain unknown.
Asha was much more than a TruYouther. She was a courageous advocate, a champion for women and girls, and a powerful voice for women everywhere.
